PIP MILLETT STUPID PEOPLE

Back in April, Manchester-born soul singer and musician Pip Millet released her beautifully minimal neo-soul EP Lost in June. Pledging to always music that's "chilled but emotional", she releases her new single 'Stupid People' alongside a stirring music video. Wobbling electric guitar plucks open the song beside Pip's sultry vocals that mourn "we didn't know what it was, we didn't know if it was love, I didn't know I couldn't get too deep, I didn't know you couldn't swim". The chorus is heart-breaking as Pip tells us about a relationship that didn't work out - "stupid people, self-destructive in a way...". With a refreshing frankness, the second verse clarifies why the relationship didn't work..."...you want to pretend that this was only sex, no feelings there, I can't pretend...". The music video directed by KC Locke shows people hugging within a scene of green trees and fields, enhancing the song's moving and natural qualities. -Ellie Rose-Davies
